Paul owns Checkmate (an Agricultural Consultancy) and has lived in Malton for over 30 years. He visits farms from Inverness to Exeter and many in between! As a keen supporter of Hull City, his main interest is watching sports. He also helps out with his Grandchildren which he says is the best hobby of them all.

Richard has been a YMCA board member for a number of years now. Richard is a former teacher and youth worker, and despite being retired is still involved in voluntary work for the North Yorkshire Justice Service. His interests include photography, walking, reading, watching any kind of sport and helping out with the grandchildren.
Sue Hawes
Vice-Chair
Sue is a retired teacher who made a career based on encouraging young people to reach their full potential. She was the Safe Guarding Officer for 10 years at Norton College and currently is the Deputy Mayor for Malton. Additionally, Sue volunteers for the Youth Justice Service. Sue believes people should not moan unless they are prepared to be a catalyst for change. Her hobbies include photography, painting, and writing.
Kevin Cooke
Operations Manager
Kevin is currently Operations Manager at YMCA Ryedale. He has worked for the project for over 20 years, and has over 30 years of experience working in both the statutory and voluntary sectors. He is passionate about empowering young people to reach their own potential. As a longstanding member of the local community it is of great importance to Kevin that young people in Ryedale have a voice and are represented as part of our community.
Lucy Jennings
Secretary
Lucy has been a member of the YMCA board since 2019. She has worked in housing for over 17 years and has extensive experience working in Ryedale, York, and Scarborough. She is passionate about supporting young people to access affordable housing and equipping them with the skills to be able to sustain a successful tenancy.
Jessamyn Beattie
Support Officer
Jess has been working for YMCA Ryedale for nearly 10 years. She is responsible for helping residents develop their skills and find positive solutions to help them cope with whatever life throws at them. She works to signpost residents for specialised help from external agencies and guide them through the resettlement process and pretenancy training.
Karen Taylor
Trustee
Karen is a company director and local business owner in Malton where she has been born and bred. Karen has always been part of the local community and actively supports the young people of the town through team sponsorship and over recent years has become a room sponsor for YMCA Ryedale. Karen believes the young people in Ryedale are the future generation and they should be able to grow with the same opportunities and is keen to bring more awareness of what YMCA Ryedale provides for our young people. Karen’s interests include developing her business, playing golf and going to the gym.
Katie Jackson
Finance & Admin Officer
Katie has worked part-time for YMCA Ryedale since June 2015. Her role encompasses all the financial and administration tasks that are associated with the project, which as can be imagined are quite vast.
Sarah Wintringham
Trustee
Sarah has worked within the local authority delivering Housing Options for the last 16 years for Ryedale District Council and now North Yorkshire Council, with the last 3 years as a Housing Options Manager. She joined the YMCA board in March 2023 and has previous experience of delivering youth work in the Scarborough area for several years. Sarah has a keen interest in improving access to affordable housing options for young people in the area.
Eve Fothergill
Engagement Officer
Eve has been a member of YMCA Ryedale’s staff team since May 2018. Her role is focused around enhancing the online engagement of YMCA Ryedale and developing project engagement. Alongside working part-time, she is also a trainee counselling psychologist at York St. John University.
Venetia Wrigley
Patron
Venetia (former High Sheriff of North Yorkshire) is actively involved in helping a range of charities in the county. She has long supported the work of YMCA Ryedale and has worked closely alongside both residents and staff. She acknowledges the challenging circumstances that many of the residents at YMCA Ryedale have faced, and is passionate in developing opportunities for them to gain skills to manage their own homes.
